Men’s HCCC Swimmers Northeast District Runners-Up

Herkimer County Community College’s men’s swimming and diving team captured the Region 3 & Northeast District Runners-Up title this past weekend at the Region 3/Northeast District Championship meet placing second out of 10 teams.

The team was led by Greg Griffin (Dallas, TX), Scott Ledwith (Geneseo, NY), Christian Torgersen (Dover, NY), Joe McGrath (Red Hook, NY) and Darin Spiry (Gloversville, NY) with help from fellow teammates Tim Ives (Adams Center, NY) and Chris Perch (Brooklyn, NY).

2^nd place in 200 FR Relay: McGrath, Spiry, Torgersen, Griffin

4^th in the 200 Medley Relay: Griffin, Ledwith, Spiry, Torgersen (setting a new school record with a time of 1:52.11, dropping .21 off the previous record)

4^th in the 800 FR Relay: McGrath, Torgersen, Ledwith, Griffin (setting a new school record with a time of 8:20.99, dropping 13 seconds off the previous record)

2^nd place in the 400 FR Relay: Spiry, McGrath, Torgersen, Griffin (setting a new school record with a time of 3:33.77, dropping 12 seconds off the previous record)

3^rd place in the 100 FLY

Scott Ledwith:

4^th place in the 400 IM (dropped 5+ seconds of his previous best time)

4^th in the 1650 FR (dropped 10 seconds of his previous best time)

4^th in the 200 BR (dropped 2 seconds off his previous best time)

Christian Torgersen:

12^th place in 50 FR (dropped 1 second off his previous best time)

6^th place in the 100 BR

7^th in the 200 BR (dropped 2 seconds off his previous best time)

Darin Spiry:

3^rd place in 1 meter diving (setting a new school record with a point total of 357.55 for 11 dives, improving by 2.97 points)

10^th place in the 100 FLY (dropped 3 seconds off his previous best time)

5^th in the 200 FLY (dropped 2 seconds of his previous best time)

Joe McGrath:

4^th place in the 200 IM (dropped 9 seconds off his previous best time)

7^th place in the 100 BA (dropped 3 seconds off his previous best time)

5^th place in the 200 BA (dropped 3 seconds off his previous best time)

Tim Ives:

8^th place in the 200 FR (dropped 2 seconds off his previous best time)

Chris Perch:

23^rd place in the 100 FR (dropped 3 seconds off his previous best time)

The women’s team placed 6^th out of 10 teams led by Bayla Akulin (Oneonta, NY), Dinah Vaveao (Adams Center, NY), Allison O’Brien (Adams Center, NY) and Kasumi Fujii (Otaru-shi, Japan)
