(Herkimer, NY) Herkimer County Community College’s Criminal Justice: Forensic Investigations program and Assistant Professor Henry Testa were recognized by the Genesis Group at the fourth annual Celebration of Education, held at the Hotel Utica on November 19.

Assistant Professor of Business Henry Testa was recognized with the Genesis Education Award. Testa has been at HCCC since 1979, serving in a number of different roles throughout his tenure. In 1990, he was honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service. He currently serves as a mentor to many faculty members in the Business, Health, Science and Technology Division of the College. Testa has also been involved in athletics at HCCC. In 2001, he was New York State Region III Baseball Coach of the Year. He is presently the men’s assistant basketball coach. Testa is also actively involved in student groups, professional organizations, campus committees and community organizations.

The Criminal Justice: Forensic Investigation program was acknowledged for providing students with an exciting view into the reality of a career in crime scene investigation. The goal of the program is to prepare students for entry-level positions in law enforcement. Students gain a real awareness of the difficulty and complexity of law enforcement work. The program features a crime scene investigation lab where students gain hands-on experience collecting, preserving and analyzing evidence using state-of-the-art equipment. Simulations and mock crime scenes take place throughout the campus, providing other students and members of the campus community a window into this program. With approximately 70 students enrolled, the program enjoys an excellent reputation and graduates are well represented in law enforcement locally and throughout New York State.

The Genesis Group is a community based organization that unites individuals and organizations to grow, promote and celebrate the Mohawk Valley region. The Celebration of Education awards honor educators and programs that are making a positive impact with students, from pre-school to graduate school.
