(Herkimer, NY) Herkimer County Community College’s Human Services Club, a student club at the College, is collecting hygiene items for the Runaway and Homeless Youth Program, a program of Catholic Charities of Herkimer County.

Items in need include shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, disposable razors and feminine hygiene products. Collection boxes are located in several locations including the Admissions Office, Registrar’s Office, Library, Academic Support Center, Athletic Director’s Office and in the Academic Division offices. Collections will be accepted through Friday, December 4. The idea for the collection began with one of the student club members, Jennifer Rice, who completed her practicum at Catholic Charities.

The Runaway and Homeless Youth Program is a non-profit organization available to anyone under the age of 21 who has run away or has been forced to leave their home. The program also assists young adults planning to leave home without specific plans once they leave. Services provided by the program include providing a safe place to stay, discussing problems at home and possible resolutions, assisting with goal setting and school or job planning, and teaching independent living skills.

HCCC’s Human Services Club explores issues and concerns relating to human services and promotes public awareness of human services issues. The club’s purpose is to help its members learn about the human service field.

For more information about the Runaway and Homeless Youth Program, contact Rachael Case at 894-9917. For questions related to the collection, contact Professor Mary Greene at 866-0300, ext. 8365.
