HCCC Basketball Players Honored

Herkimer, NY— Four Herkimer County Community College men’s basketball players recently were named to the All Mountain Valley Conference and All Region III teams.

Senior Akeem Ellis (Brooklyn, NY) was named Region III Player of the Year. He was also named the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Ellis, a 6’6” point guard, averages 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists per game. Senior Ian Austin-Michaud (Valatie, NY) was named second team All Region and second team All Conference. Austin-Michaud is Herkimer’s best defender and averages 10 rebounds and five assists per game. Senior Rhamel Williams (Bronx, NY) was named third team All Region and second team All Conference. Williams averages 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals per game. Senior Cliff Brown (Hempstead, NY) was named third team All Region and third team All Conference. Brown averages 12 points per game.

Head Coach Matt Lee was named Region III Coach of the Year and Mountain Valley Conference Co-Coach of the Year.

Herkimer begins regional play Friday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m. in the Region III quarterfinals against the winner of the North Country Community College/Adirondack Community College sub-regional game. HCCC is the number one seed. All regional games will be played at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY.
