Herkimer, NY—Herkimer County Community College (HCCC) and SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) recently entered into an articulation agreement with the China West Normal University (CWNU) in Sichuan, China. The agreement allows for a two-year pilot program beginning in August 2010.
The program will allow CWNU students, after completing their first year of study in China, to transfer to HCCC for the second year in one of several Business programs. Students will earn an associate’s degree from both HCCC and CWNU.
Upon completion of the associate degree, students will be able to transfer to SUNYIT to complete the bachelor’s degree in designated majors. They will also be eligible for an opportunity to apply for admission into graduate study at SUNYIT to complete the master’s of business administration (MBA) degree in Technology Management.
HCCC’s international student population is currently made up of 78 students from 23 different countries, and is supported by a strong English as a Second Language program at the college. “International students bring a global perspective to the campus for the benefit of our student body, faculty and community at large,” said HCCC President Ann Marie Murray. This is the first international articulation agreement HCCC has entered into.
“This is an exciting venture for HCCC and SUNYIT, as it gives our institutions an important connection with China” said SUNYIT President Bjong Wolf Yeigh. “Students in this partnership program would complement our existing international student body.” Currently, SUNYIT’s overall enrollment of more than 2,900 includes more than 100 students from about 20 nations.
