Herkimer, NY—Nine local students recently completed a 72-hour Precision Machine Operator Training Program offered jointly through Herkimer County Community College and Herkimer BOCES. A recognition ceremony recognizing the participants and the organizations involved was held at HCCC at the completion of the program.

The program was made possible through funding received by the Herkimer County Employment & Training Administration under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (Stimulus), and was a result of collaboration between officials at HCCC, Herkimer BOCES, the Workforce Investment Board, Herkimer County, and local employers such as CTM, Remington Arms and Fermer Precision. Participants completed the six-week training program to prepare for entry-level machinist positions.

Classes on workforce readiness and computer instruction took place at HCCC, and precision machining training took place at BOCES. The concept for a program originated with CTM, a precision engineering machine shop located in Frankfort.

CTM also donated more than $38,000 worth of equipment to assist in getting the program off the ground.
