(Town of Lincoln, NY – June 2, 2010) Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley reports that deputies are continuing their investigation into the death of a 30 year old man that occurred at about 1:19 PM this afternoon at the Madison County landfill located on Buyea Road in the Town of Lincoln.

Vincent R. Unczur, age 30, 1102 Center Street, Frankfort, New York was in the process of dumping refuse from the rear hydraulic box of his ten wheel truck when the hydraulic box collapsed down on top of him. The preliminary investigation appears to indicate a mechanical failure occurred that caused the box to come down when it was in an upright position. Unczur was employed with the Feher Rubbish Removal of Utica, Inc.

A nearby commercial hauler rushed to the man’s aid as a County landfill worker called the 911 Center. The County landfill employee used a backhoe bucket to raise the box and free the victim. The Town of Lincoln Fire and Rescue Department and Greater Lenox Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

The death investigation is being conducted by members of the Sheriff’s Office.

Assisting in the investigation are the Madison County Safety Office, New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and the United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
