(Utica, NY) On Thursday, January 21, 2010 three local, non-profit organizations will host Rock the House, an event to raise funds to advance adaptive curling in the area.  The event takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fort Schuyler Club in Utica and reservations are required.

Upstate Cerebral Palsy, Sitrin Health Care, and the Central Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, three of the largest non-profits in the community, have joined together to set new standards across the world for people with visual impairments, cerebral palsy, and other special needs.  Proceeds from the event will help cover equipment costs, practice session fees, and travel expenses.

Rock the House is the first fundraiser to benefit this cause.  Named after curling terms, the “house” describes the three concentric circles where points are scored and the “rock” refers to a curling stone.  Fitting to host the event, Utica boasts one of the oldest curling clubs in the country.  The event will feature a scotch and wine tasting reception, reminiscent of Scotland where the sport of curling is believed to have originated.

The Central New York Adaptive Curling Fund was recently established at the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. to maintain funds for this program.

To register for the event, contact Rosemary Bonacci of Sitrin Health Care at (315) 737-2416 or Colleen Cianfrocco of Upstate Cerebral Palsy at (315) 724-6907 ext. 2279.
